There is a reason why satellites fly in big doughnut shaped paths around the earth when they are broadcasting MTV. Think about it this way, if they were going a bit slower, they would spiral inwards, and if they were going a bit faster, they would spiral outwards.

The distance a satellite is orbiting at will be determined in much the same way as how far Shakira's hair will be from her head when she tosses it. The faster, the farther.

Basic Concept:

Farther Away from the gravitational force = The slower it orbits.

Back Than, Newton made the observation that the moon rotates around the earth as determined by the law of gravitation.

F=Gm1m2r2

G = gravitation constant. m1 = mass of first object. m2 = mass of second object. r = Radius from center of m1 to center of m2.
